Groundworks and civils: worked example

A groundworks firm sending out a car park and drainage job

A commercial groundworks job means labour packages, plant, haulage and materials on every quote. This is how a civils firm would run one through SUBR.

The Review section of a quote in SUBR with four steps marked Done: the quote read, the read checked against the document, approved for scope, and two scopes cut.
A quote that has been read, checked with the office's two ticks and approved, with two scopes cut from it. Screen from SUBR's demonstration workspace. All names are invented.

This is a worked example, not a customer story. SUBR is new, so we show how a firm like this would use it. Real case studies from our Founding Firms will replace these examples.

The firm

A groundworks and civils contractor working on commercial and industrial sites, with a small office and its own gangs, subcontracting drainage and surfacing.

Before SUBR

The quote for a distribution centre car park lists excavation, drainage, kerbing and surfacing with the firm's rates. The drainage and surfacing packages have to be retyped for each subcontractor with the rates taken out.

Pipe, aggregates and plant are requested from merchants and hire firms one phone call at a time.

With SUBR

Each step on a real SUBR screen. The screens come from the demonstration workspace and show one example job, a brickwork repair; a groundworks and civils quote goes through exactly the same steps.

Quote read

The office uploads the client quote PDF, AI reads it, and the office ticks the read as checked and approved for scope.

The AI's read of a quote in SUBR: a scope summary, labour breakdown, materials breakdown, quantities, preparation and completion tasks, and the wording for the subcontractor.

Scopes built

SUBR produces a drainage scope and a surfacing scope with no rates or client price on them, a materials request for the merchants, and a scope of works for the project manager.

One scope cut from the quote: the work, the scaffold and the materials wording a subcontractor needs. No job costs, margin or client price. Screen from SUBR's demonstration workspace. All names are invented.

Work offered

Each subcontractor gets their own link and can accept, decline, ask a question or ask for a change from the phone, with no account and no password.

Pre-start

The accepted job cannot be marked mobilised until the 23-item pre-start check is done, so no gang starts before the RAMS are signed.

On site

The site manager logs the day on each job, and every job from the car park quote stays on one project to close-out.
